Join us for our live ‘Unpacking Psychosocial Disability’ event in our Momentum series.
Our next live event ‘Unpacking Psychosocial Disability’ will take place on the 26th October 2022 at 11am BST. This event will explore the impact of psychosocial disabilities on children and youth with disabilities, the specific barriers they face, and the best strategies for supporting them.
We are pleased to announce that chairing the event will be Able Child Africa’s Hannah Fitzgibbon, who will be joined by Emile Gouws, an autism and inclusion advocate from South Africa, and Khira Geoffrey from BasicNeeds Kenya, a mental-health focused organisation.

Our Panel
Hannah Fitzgibbon
Hannah is Able Child Africa’s Programmes Officer, working closely with our partners in Africa to deliver disability-inclusive projects. Hannah is leading Able Child Africa’s work on mental health and psychosocial disability in relation to children and youth with disabilities.
Emile Gouws
Emile was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the age of three and a half years. He is currently a specialist educator, vice-chairman of the National Executive committee of Autism South Africa, Executive Committee member of the Commonwealth Disabled Peoples Forum. His self-advocacy is based on Article 24-Inclusive Education of the UNCRPD (United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) and article 24 and 25- Inclusive Education and Accessible Health
Khira Geoffrey
Geoffrey is an enthusiast in mental health advocacy with a professional background as a Medical Psychologist and Clinical Researcher. He is currently actively foreseeing the improvement of mental health service provision in institutions of higher learning and the community at large. He also sits in the Global Mental Health Action Network Advisory Board as a representative of the African continent. As one of the 7 applicants selected for 1 year support by Ember (MIHN and SHM collaboration) out of 159 submissions, he is benefiting from Ember mentorship, including development of the student mental health model.
